Canon Intros PIXMA iP100 Mobile Printer
Posted on Apr 27 2008 6:07 AM by adnana

Hauling a full-sized printer has never been a viable solution for road warriors. A portable printer like the new Canon Pixma iP100 will sure come in handy. Canon has a long history making these mobile printers, so the 4.4 lb. iP100 could only be better if the engineers do their job right. The IP100 can print up to 9600 x 2400 dot per inch (DPI) resolution with speed about 14 ppm in color and 20 ppm in black. The black ink tank has been increased by 50%, reducing the risk of running out of ink during a last-minute project.

Lexmark X9575

Changes to all-in-one printers have got to the stage of being evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Lexmark's new X9575, its top of the range device, has all the bells and whistles you could want, but nothing fundamentally different in its print engine or paper handling. However, two features of the machine that are special are an extended direct replacement warranty, which lasts five years, and high yield cartridges included as standard - none of your half-filled, ‘starter' cartridges here.

Styled in Lexmark's trademark black, white and silver livery, with some mid-grey thrown in for good measure, the X9575 has a conventional layout. At the front is a 50-sheet Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), mounted on top of an A4 flatbed scanner. Beneath this is an elegantly laid-out control panel, with a minimum of controls, but including a 60mm colour LCD screen and a numeric keypad for dialling fax numbers.

Iogear says that you can add up to six of the external adapters to your computer, but they have to be connected directly to a USB port not a USB hub. Just in case IOGEAR's USB 2.0 External VGA Video Card (pictured) wasn't swank enough for your DVI-equipped display, the firm is introducing a variant just for you. Designed to give users the ability to spread those 80 column spreadsheets over two monitors without cracking open the case, the USB 2.0 External DVI Video Card enables the use of a multi-monitor setup for folks with leased / locked machines and those absolutely terrified of seeing PCB in the flesh.

    Gibson Unleashes New Robot Guitars
Posted on Apr 11 2008 5:56 AM by adnana
    Filed Under: Peripherals ,

Gibson turned the guitar world on its head towards the end of last year when it released the world's first self tuning electric guitar - and having seen it sell out faster than your average emo band has decided it knows when it's onto a good thing...

Consequently, this week sees the announcement two new Gibson 'Robot Guitars': the 'Robot Les Paul Studio' (above) and the 'Robot SG Special' (below) both in the surprising choice of purple.

Prepped for a larger scale run (the original was extremely limited and sold out globally in one day), the duo will feature the same single strum, self tuning system witnessed first time around.

Kensington Ci70 keyboard with top-mounted USB
Posted on Apr 09 2008 8:04 AM by adnana
    Filed Under: Peripherals ,

The striking feature on the Kensington Ci70 keyboard is the two full USB ports for peripherals placed on top of the keyboard. Breaking away from the norms of placing the ports on the side or the back, this new placement is a welcome change. It makes it easier to load in a flash drive or some portable media players. A third mini USB port with cable also hooks up the digital cameras conveniently. The Ci70 is comparatively smaller with a third less footprint than most keyboards and notebook-like keys that provide quicker typing than full-height desktop models. Media keys at the top and side supply both shortcuts to commonly used apps as well as navigation for music and videos.

Canon Announces the Pixma MX850 All-in-One

Canon U.S.A., Inc. has announced a new addition to its Pixma printer lineup, the new Pixma MX850 Office All-In-One (AIO) printer for homes and small offices. The Pixma MX850 Office AIO printer features printing, copying, scanning and faxing capabilities along with an Ethernet port for networking, making it ideal for the home where mom, dad and children are always on deadline to complete work or school projects. As home offices continue to proliferate and more homes find the need for multiple computers, Canon shows that one AIO printer can be shared for office and photo printing needs. Having a Canon AIO printer on the desktop not only saves space with so much functionality in a single device, it also adds to the look of the office with its sleek and stylish design.

"Canon has a long history of providing products that meet the needs of the marketplace," said Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A. "With the Pixma MX850 Office AIO printer, consumers can experience the productivity of an all-in-one that serves as the 'office by day' and still enjoy vivid photographs from the same all-in-one becoming a 'photo lab by night'."

Nyko shipping its Rock Band / Guitar Hero III compatible PS3 wireless guitar
Posted on Apr 05 2008 12:58 PM by adnana
    Filed Under: Peripherals ,

While we fully support a baseless and antagonistic war between Rock Band and Guitar Hero III fanboys, Nyko has those profit margins to worry about. The new Front Man wireless guitar for the PS3 works with both games, and can be switched via that fancy red stomp box. Wireless range is about 25 feet, and you can get about 80 hours of rock out of the thing before you need to swap the batteries. You know, the batteries of rock and roll. Too bad the guitar costs $60, what most retailers are charging for the first party controllers.

    Logitech Wave Keyboard
Posted on Apr 04 2008 11:52 AM by adnana
    Filed Under: Peripherals ,

Perhaps even more so than mice, keyboards can be a deeply personal thing. Once you've found a keyboard you like it's hard when you have to use a different one. For example, until Logitech's Wave Keyboard landed on my desk I was still using a clackity old Microsoft PS/2 keyboard and loved it to bits. Likewise, recently one of our old staffers asked to have his old favourite keyboard, which was buried in one of our bottomless cupboards, shipped to him in Taiwan.

Sentimental it may be, but a good keyboard is like a comfy pair of slippers, slightly worn but still going strong and reassuringly familiar. Still, despite this distinctly British love of the underdog, there are plenty of very decent modern takes on the keyboard and Logitech has long been one of the leading purveyors of all kinds of peripherals, including keyboards.

Kyocera launches worlds fastest Drop-on-Demand Inkjet Printhead
Posted on Apr 03 2008 12:27 AM by adnana
    Filed Under: Peripherals ,

The new KJ4 series printhead from Kyocera can print up to 200 meters per minute at 600 x 480 dpi, or 150 meters per minute at 600×600 dpi; that's about 1000 sheets of A4 size in a minute! This can also be translated to nearly 17 pages per second. The KJ4 does the job perfectly due to Kyocera's proprietary piezoelectric ceramics technology. It also features a 4.25 inch printline, the largest in its class.

Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II Has eSATA, Better Mac Support
Posted on Apr 03 2008 12:21 AM by adnana
    Filed Under: Peripherals ,

Western Digital's been churning out these My Book external hard drives in all sorts of configurations, but this 1 and 2TB Studio Edition IIs seem to be the most feature rich yet. It's got FireWire 400/800, eSATA, USB 2.0, RAID 0 or 1, and Mac support (you can also reformat it for PCs). Looking at Western Digital's Editions page, these come equipped with all the features except for remote sharing and networking, because there's no network port.

On the other hand, the $399 and $599 price tag for the 1 and 2TB versions seem way higher than the $200-300 you're normally paying for drives of that size—but those usually don't have all these connectivity options. To round out the features, there's an external capacity-indicating LED and Western Digital's GreenPower technology.

DX1 Input System is the ultimate customizable keyboard
Posted on Mar 31 2008 12:49 PM by adnana
    Filed Under: Peripherals ,

I’m the kind of guy that loves customizing his computer. No boring beige box and single monitor for me. I’ve got a nice window in the side of the case to show off my awesome hardware and liquid cooling system. The two wall-mounted LCDs help me stand out a bit too. However, one thing I haven’t really thought about is customizing my keyboard. Sure, I can program a few function keys to my liking, but nothing like this DX1 keyboard.

The DX1 is about as customizable as you can get. While it has only 25 keys, it’s not really meant for typing, but rather as a tool to aid you in whatever line of work (or play) you’re doing. Each key can be placed anywhere on the board, and moved on a whim. You’re welcome to assign shortcuts and macros to each key, however, you don’t need to worry about how it interacts with multiple programs as it will remember your preferences for each. This customizable keyboard will set you back more than most, at $139 it is a bit salty, but would be well worth it to some.
